Material Matters: The Fabrics Behind luur
At luur, fabric is never an afterthought. The way a garment feels, performs and ages begins with the material it is made from.
We prioritise natural and cellulosic fibres wherever they make sense, while always considering performance, longevity, comfort and how a garment will actually be worn.
For our debut collection, we worked with Australian Merino wool, Italian-made fabrics, lyocell and long-staple cotton, alongside carefully selected blends and technical materials where they bring a functional benefit.
From the softness of a fabric against the skin to its ability to withstand weather or resist creasing, every material is chosen with a purpose.
Australian Merino Wool, Made in Italy
One of the key materials in our debut collection begins with Australian Merino wool and is transformed into fabric in Italy.
We were drawn to Merino for its naturally soft hand feel, breathability and ability to regulate temperature. For this collection, we selected a considered blend designed to balance these natural qualities with greater crease resistance and ease of care.
The result is a refined fabric designed for everyday wear-comfortable, practical and easier to maintain.
The Softness of Lyocell
For our bodysuits and crop tops, we chose a lyocell and elastane blend.
Lyocell gives these close-to-the-body pieces a smooth, fluid feel, while elastane provides the stretch and recovery needed for their fitted silhouettes.
We also developed a lyocell and cotton range, including pants, shirts and tailoring. The combination creates a beautifully soft hand feel and fluid drape while retaining the familiar character and structure of cotton.
Long-Staple Cotton
Cotton appears throughout the collection, but for us, the quality of the fibre matters.
Our pants, shirts and shorts include long-staple cotton, selected with longevity in mind. Longer cotton fibres can create smoother and stronger yarns, resulting in fabrics that feel refined while being designed for repeated wear.
Our T-shirts are also made from 100% cotton, continuing our preference for natural fibres wherever additional technical performance isn't required.
Technical Materials, When There Is a Reason
We believe every fibre in a garment should have a purpose.
For our technical rain jackets, material selection is driven by performance. Waterproofing, breathability, weather protection, durability and lightweight construction require a different approach from our everyday fabrics.
Here, technical fibres allow us to create garments designed to perform in changing environments while remaining comfortable and refined enough for everyday wear.
Rather than choosing materials according to a rigid rule, we consider what each garment needs to do — and select the fabric accordingly.
Designed Beyond a Season
Longevity is one of the most important considerations behind our fabric choices.
We want to create clothing that can be worn repeatedly and kept beyond a single season. We consider not only how a material looks when it is new, but how it feels, performs and ages over time.
For luur, choosing materials is about finding the right balance between nature, performance, longevity and purpose.
Sometimes that means long-staple cotton. Sometimes exceptionally soft lyocell. Sometimes it means a carefully considered blend. And when a garment needs to protect you from the elements, it means choosing technical materials capable of doing the job.
Every fibre should have a reason to be there.
